Acupuncture therapy can be used to treat dysmenorrhea.
Case 1 21/10/2009
K,L. Female, 28 years old, her period started when she was 14 years old, since that time, she has suffered from period pain every month, and she couldn’t go to work during the period. The pain is mainly located in the lower abdomen and lower back, every month she needs to take 3 to 4 days of pain killer. Her feet and hands always feel cold, like ice, at night, and when she goes to sleep, she needs to wear two pairs of socks. Her lips and face are shallow and pale. Every night she needs to go to the toilet two to three times to urinate. Her stomach is often upset, and the lower abdomen often gets bloated. Her tongue is pale white; the pulse is very thin and weak. The problem is caused by the kidney and spleen Yang deficiency from the perspective of Chinese medicine, so I applied acupuncture to her to reinforce her kidney and spleen Yang; after two sessions of acupuncture treatment (once per week), her periods came with no lower abdomen pain, but slight lower back pain. Her feet and hand still felt cold, so she was given another 6 sessions of acupuncture once every week, after which she felt no period pain at all, and her hands and feet are warm.
